just call me Mrs. HGTV

The point of these pictures is to show our entertainment center. Can you see it there behind the kids? Sort of? We bought it years ago to go with our big ol' hoopty tv. I decided a while ago, that it's looking a little dated and needed a fresh new update.

Enter a can of black paint, molding, bead board, caulk, air compressor/nail gun and my ever helpful slave laborer, Stick. As usual, when I start these projects I think I can do it all by myself. Generally I can do it all by myself. A short while into this particular project though, I realized this was not going to be one of those self sufficient times. Cutting that molding at the right angle required some degree of technical savvy, which I do not have when it comes to wood. Fabric, I can do. Wood? Not so much. Not to mention the whole use the nail gun to nail the molding to the top of the entertainment center aspect. A skill which required safety glasses, measuring and nerves of steel.

Yes, the tower on the left needs the upper doors and the door pulls installed and I'm thinking I may add a shelf right above the tv, but overall I am very happy with the results. Stick's help was a life saver, and while I'm pretty sure he thought the whole idea was completely crazy to begin with, I think in the end, he understood my "vision." I may have heard the words, "you can't polish a turd"(one of his more classic quotes) muttered under his breath a time or two, but probably I just imagined it!

Then once I got the entertainment center put back into place I decided that Stick would want to actually put the cable box/dvd player, etc. into it, instead of on the table in front of the tv (where it looks so great.) So I got the great idea to hurry up and paint the wall behind the entertainment center, before he filled the entertainment center up with cords and stuff.

I painted like a crazy lady all day on Friday with this fun sunny shade of yellow that is supposed to be butter yellow, not lemon yellow. In theory the project should be done now, but like all good projects, one thing has lead to another and now I've decided the only way to cope with the pre-existing chair rail (that I don't reallly like) is to put bead board underneath it and paint it all white. I'm pretty sure I can handle this new project all by myself. Heh, heh I'm practically a pro with the nail gun by now, how hard could it possibly be?

I am totally impressed! And I think the beadboard will look great below the chair rail.
