2014.5.18 weekly
We’ve had a busy week. It seems like every year in May, life gets really wild. All the sports, and scouts, and end of year school programs pile on top of each other until I threaten to quit everything in sight. Hopefully we will survive this May with no casualties.
Rachel has an interview this Wednesday for a (paying) summer IT internship with our school district. Stick and I are really excited about it. Rachel frankly, is not. She’s pretty sure IT is not her thing, but we are pretty sure we want her to get a summer job, and we don’t care what it is! It’s highly competitive, only 8 positions available, so who knows what her chances are? I would imagine there are some techy kids that are probably more qualified than her, but maybe she will win them over with her wit and charm and beauty! Ha. I’m glad she’s at least trying. She had to put a resume together and that along with the interview are both good learning experiences.
Aaron just got hired by his hometeaching companion (and our neighbor) to do a summer job of weeding flower beds once a week and some weed wacking. Yay! I wish he could get a daily job but this is better than nothing.
Thomas is spending his after school time this week in the school woodshop building wooden “things” like wooden rings that he brought home and stained. He always has some kind of wood building project going on. I often see him out in the back yard with a piece of wood, a saw and various other tools making something creative.
Spencer is suffering major allergies this week. He’s been pretty miserable. His face and eyes even look swollen, poor boy. We finally gave him some Allegra and I think he feels a little better. He competed in the school spelling bee and placed 4th. The word that eliminated him was pristine.
Harry also competed in the spelling bee and made it till the 3rd round when the word interpret stumped him.
Stick and all the boys camped Friday night/Saturday with our ward Father & Sons campout. They came back dirty and smelly which always means they had fun.
Rachel, Rebekah and I had fun here at home while the boys were gone. When Rebekah heard that it was going to be “girl’s night” she wanted to know what hotel we were going to stay in?!?!?!?! She was disappointed that we were just staying home this year but she forgot all about it once we were out on the town shopping and she’d tried on her 46th pair of shoes.
We remembered at about 8pm last night that Aaron and Thomas are desperate for new church suits. A mad dash to JC Pennys resulted in a great navy blue suit for Aaron but the only option for Thomas was a “husky”. We bought it, just in case but hoping that Kohl’s would have something else, but they didn’t. This morning when he tried on the husky suit, it looked pretty ridiculous so we will take it back. He is now too big for boys and too small for mens, so I hope we can find something online.
In other wardrobe news every single kid in this household is growing like a weed and needs new summer clothes. Harry luckily gets hand-me-downs but everyone else needs new stuff. The three big boys are virtually the same size so they can’t even hand down to each other. Every summer I go to Target to get them shorts and then I get super grumpy because their shorts are like $16 a piece. For shorts. It’s ridiculous. Somehow a week or so ago when I was down at soccer with Aaron which is sort of close to DI, the thought occurred to me to go check for shorts at DI. I don’t really like to shop at DI and it’s not close to home, so I never go, but the $16 shorts motivated me to check it out. Their shorts are $4 a piece. So over the last few weeks I’ve found all the shorts we need. Four pairs for $16 instead of one. SCORE!
Over and out.
