Hawaii: day 10

1.2.2015

Check out these clouds! The sky was incredible.

Synchronized group handstands are hard.

About five minutes after we hauled our chairs, towels, toys, etc out on the beach, it misted over and then started pouring rain.

So we hauled all the stuff back to the yard and went inside.

We played a couple of rounds of Banana Grams.

I think it's the only game that I can occasionally beat Stick at. However, this day,  the island air must have zapped my brain.

Harry found this coconut on the beach and chopped it in two.

It was misty/rainy for most of the day.

It cleared up once, so we took a family walk on the beach.

At some point during the walk a "race" back to the house was suggested for the kids. We should probably say a "long distance race" to clarify how far we were from the house. Stick upped the ante by offering $5 to the winner.

Can you guess who won?

Yep, Mr. Competitive, Spencer.

We spent the afternoon watching movies, including "Hunt For Red October" which is one of Stick's favorites but the kids didn't really get.

Bekah spent the afternoon foraging for snacks. She made several pieces of toast and told me, "I had to defrost that bread, it was pitch hard."

We played another game of Seven Wonders and right as we were finishing up,  and it was storming outside, the power started to flicker.

Then the power went completely out.

And these two flashlights that came with the house?

Completely dead.

We had a surprising amount of flashlights with us. I suppose because we are such a Boy Scout heavy crowd. On that same note, did I mention earlier that we got stopped at the SLC airport for having not one but TWO knives in our possession? I had my teesny Leatherman key chain in my bag and Aaron had a pocket knife in his suit. We had to mail both back home.

Duh.

Anywho, the power was out for quite a while so we gave up and went to bed. And that's when it came back on, of course.

My favorite quote of this day is Spencer telling me, "Ow! I chewed too hard and dislocated my earlobe!"

Bwahahahahahah.
