Rebekah loved our family viewing last night of ET. I happened to be sitting by her so I got to hear her running commentary through the whole thing. Starting with ‘This is scary” (beginning) to “This is SO funny!” (middle) to “This is sad” (ET dieing) and finishing with “This is INTENSE!” (When the feds are chasing ET and the bike riding teens through the neighborhood.) All of the kids enjoyed it and laughed through a lot of the movie. I have happy memories of seeing it multiple times as a kid so it was fun to watch again. Stick has never seen it and I think he got just past half way before he fell asleep.
Aaron had a soccer game yesterday in Heber so we decided to bring the whole family and drive over the mountain instead of around, so we could get in our annual “View the Autumn Colors drive” at the same time. Oh my. It was so gorgeous. Now the facts are, that most years we usually start this drive at 5pm, so by the time we get to the canyon it’s practically dark making it pretty hard to see anything. And we usually go a week too late. This time we deserve serious props! An afternoon drive is the best! The colors are so bright, it almost seemed fake or like something out of OZ. The only downside is that Bekah was really car sick. She was starting to complain and when I turned around to look at her, she was white as a ghost. She managed to make it without tossing her cookies, but she did tell us, “You should have left me home with a babysitter!”
Harry and Bekah had parent teacher conferences this week. It’s always fun to hear what their teachers have to say. It feels strange to only have two kids at the elementary school. Harry went to the pumpkin patch with scouts and came home with a perfect pumpkin. His busted lip is almost better but he still looks kind of like a bruiser.
Stick and Thomas did a scout hike this week that they really loved to a nearby place called Potato Hill. There is a cave that you can climb into if you’re willing to shimmy on the ground at the base of the cave, but then it opens up and you can stand up in it. Thomas was mad that it was full of trash though and wants to go back and clean it up.
Rachel is still waiting to hear from her intended Halloween Date. I, for one, am feeling pretty grumpy about this, but she seems not too worried about it. If the guy never answers (or says no), she has someone else she will ask. She helped her friend R.T ask Taylor (her homecoming guy) so they could be part of her group. The “asking” involved a (different) friend wearing a gorilla suit at night, and bananas thrown at Taylor with the dance invitation written on them, while Rachel and the rest of the Laurels hid in the bushes taking videos and laughing. Her friend B.H. is asking someone else in our ward tomorrow and probably another friend will get a date too, so they should have a fun group.
Aaron is starting a new massive Beethoven piece for piano and when he can find time to practice, he enjoys it. If you’ve seen “The Truman Show” lately, you’d recognize the song. He ordered a new electronics kit that he was pretty thrilled about. All I really know about it, is that it’s a bunch of wire and circuits and lights and screens. I’m not sure what he’s going to make, but it’s a fun hobby for him.
Spencer had oodles of fun on Friday when we went to Discovery Park in Pleasant Grove (no school). He and Thomas ran and ran and ran until sweat was running down their faces. They might have big growing up kid bodies but they’re still little kids inside. Have I mentioned that they both have bigger feet than mine and all they do these days is grow out of shoes and jeans?
Over and out.
